Hello and welcome back to week 4 of summer 2 home learning. You are all doing so well and I am so impressed with the efforts and hard work you are putting into your home learning. I can't believe we are already in week 4. Keep sending me photos of your work and learning activities. I look forward to seeing them and sharing them on the website.
English. This week we are looking at story endings. Across the 5 lessons you will explore comprehension skills, making predictions, speech and then write your own alternative story ending.
Spellings. Words ending in -ful, converting nouns and verbs into adjectives. Your 10 words are below. Learn them over the week and ask your lovely parents to test you later in the week. I have added a link to loads of activities to support you with learning the words.
boastful, doubtful, faithful, fearful, thankful, beautiful, pitiful, plentiful, fanciful, merciful.
Reading comprehension tasks. I have added a selection of activities linked to an ebook called, 'Firebird'. Try to read the text and complete the activities off the activity plan.
Maths. Decimals. This week we are subtracting, multiplying and dividing decimals. Access the video links at the start of each lesson, watch and listen to the teacher explaining the method. Complete the worksheet and go through the answers with your parents.
Science: Oil and water density polka dots. this week I would like you to perform another experiment around mixtures. Do you think oil and water mix? What else might happen if they don't? Follow the instructions in the link below to complete the experiment. Please also send photos of your investigation.
Oil and water density polka dot experiment
Once you have completed your science experiment, write up the experiment using the science investigation writing frame below. You will need to complete all sections and think carefully about how to write up your method, results and conclusion (reflection). Include a diagram of your experiment too.
Topic: Flags of Europe. Last week I asked you to explore 5 European countries that were due to take place in Tokyo 2020 (now Tokyo 2021). This week I would like you to choose 1 of those countries to learn more about.
Pick a European country to study.
Find an outline of a map of your country, then draw your own map.
Label the capital city, other main cities, rivers, mountains, borders and any seas or oceans.
Colour your map in.
For your country I would like you to create a key vocabulary poster with the following words and phrases on in English and the language of your country; Hello, Goodbye, How are you? What time is it? Numbers 1-10.
EXTRA CHALLENGE: If you would like something extra, write a script for an advert promoting your country. Make it persuasive and appealing to visitors. Then film yourself in an advert.
French: Bonjour! This week I would also like you to continue to think about learning those French words. The link below goes through a number of different school subjects in English and French. It also puts the subject name into a sentence for you to have a go at as well. Listen to them and write them down in English and French. You may want to write it in a list, a ppt or on flashcards.
RE. What Jesus did to save people? Part 3. This week I would like you to think about the story of Jesus and the 5 loaves and 2 fish. Jesus did an amazing act of love by sharing those loaves of bread and fish. He performed a wonderful miracle to help those people. Talk with your parents about the story and think about how it relates to life today.
Do people today need help with food?
Why do you think some people might need help with food?
Do you think that it is their fault they can't afford/get their own food?
Are there places for people to go to get food today in our communities?
Produce a poster about the story of Jesus and the 5 loaves and 2 fish and compare it to life today.
