Forest School is an important part of our EYFS and KS1 curriculum. Eckington CE First School are lucky to have a small wooded site on our grounds. This has been developed to allow children to explore a woodland setting.
Our main ethos for forest school is to let the children choose and instigate their own learning. When children go to forest school we let them EXPLORE, INVESTIGATE and LEARN from nature. There are many opportunities for child led learning, team work and the building of self esteem.
Reception Class go to the site every week for their outdoor learning. Year 1 children go every other week and children from the rest of the school will tie outdoor learning into their topics.
Children in year 1 will have a campfire, toast marshmallows and drink hot chocolate around the fire. At times across the year children will work with members of the local WI learning forest school skills, such as fire lighting and making bread on an open fire.
This half term the children from class 1 and class 4 teamed up to have a wonderful forest school morning, with the year 1 children being 'experts' teaching the older children about our rules and activities in the wood.
